University of Utah Health Plans Individual Health Insurance Company Overview
University of Utah Health Plans (“UofU”) is the only university healthcare system in Utah. It's known for its provider network which includes the University of Utah and MountainStar facilities. We estimate it serves 8% of all Utahns who buy their own coverage. That's roughly 16,000 Utahns.
UofU offers many different types of plans. Some plans include low deductibles and copays. Other plans are high-deductible. These include “HSA-qualified” plans. HSA stands for health savings accounts. HSA-qualified plans allow policyholders to contribute to HSAs tax-free.
University of Utah Health Plans Provider Networks
In 2023, UofU offers two networks: Healthy Premier and UHealth Plus. The Healthy Preferred network will be discontinued in 2023.
The Healthy Premier network covers nearly the entire state of Utah. So, it includes more in-network providers. The Healthy Premier network is larger than the UHealth Plus network. It covers more providers and geography. Thus, it costs more.
The UHealth Plus network is a new narrow network in 2023. It covers 4 Hospitals, 1 Urgent Care Clinic and 3,852 Providers in Salt Lake County. It's only available in the following zip codes: 84101, 84102, 84103, 84105, 84106, 84107, 84108, 84109, 84110, 84111, 84112, 84113, 84115, 84117, 84124, 84127, and 84130.
When you look at a UofU plan, be sure to note the network. A plan with the Healthy Premier network will cost more than the same plan with UHealth Plus.
